Voter Empowerment Trainings Underway

Ahead of the fall elections, we are conducting a series of trainings around the state to prepare members and staff for our Voter Empowerment Campaign.  We plan to turn out tens of thousands of people to vote on Election Day, but to do that we need to train 100 people in 4 cities to carry out the door-to-door outreach.

Trainings will focus on learning how to:

• Engage people in discussions on the issues that are important to them, link these issues to the importance of voting, and troubleshoot barriers they face to getting to the polls

• Be an effective neighborhood captain and build the leadership skills of new members who are volunteering

• Create messaging around our endorsed candidates

The 4-hour trainings are conducted in small groups, popular education-style, drawing from participants’ own experiences.  We have also developed a N2N campaign manual as a guide to help effectively facilitate the training with new members and allies.
