Leadership Development Program

The only way to build sustainable power in low-income areas is by developing local leaders to organize their neighbors and their community. Professional staff organizers and community activist members are both trained through this program. Currently, four of our organizers on staff developed their skills through our Leadership Development Program.

New members learn how to organize by going door-to-door to talk to their neighbors about issues like housing, health care and child care. As they see our model in action, volunteers learn:

  • How the democratic process works, and
  • How to work together with their neighbors to improve their community and create social change.

The best way to learn how our Leadership Development Program works is to tell you the personal stories of our organizers – both volunteer and professional – who have grown out of our work.
